I would love to win this book. amsbolda@hotmail.com

And the FINAL book, out of all of the entries this week, goes to.......Shauna of Trying to Stay Calm! And isn't it cool that her winning entry was congratulating the previous winner?!

Congrats to the winner!

I was amazed when I counted all of the entries--there were 263 entries to this series of giveaways this month!! And Shauna was comment #182, which happened to be the first comment of the 4th week. So, the first comment sometimes DOES win!

EcoStore USA Review & $25 Giveaway!

I was thrilled when I was contacted by EcoStore USA, and very intrigued by their product line. Lately, as my kids have become more and more involved in the household cleaning, I have wondered about the wisdom in letting them use any old cleaner to do their chores. With 5 kids, I can't keep my eye on each one ALL the time.

There is SO much talk today about going green, but does it all really mean? We have all grown up surrounded by "non-green" products, and we're ok, right?

Check out some fast facts about household products:

  • According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers accidental poisonings occur in the home every 30 seconds.
  • The National Safety Council has reported that more children under four die of from accidental poisoning than are killed by guns.
  • A report by the EPA to Congress determined household cleaners three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air pollution.
  • Women who work from home and are more frequently exposed to household toxins and poor air quality are 50% more likely to develop cancer.
  • Newborn infants have trace levels of toxic chemicals in their bodies, passed on by their mother’s exposure.
Here's some info about EcoStore:

Safe Products
ecostore USA has formulated its products without toxic petrochemicals, phosphates, nitrates, chlorine, ammonia, enzymes, synthetic perfumes, coloring or dyes, optical whiteners/brighteners or chemical preservatives. Instead, ecostore USA uses sustainable ingredients derived from plants and minerals, producing safer products that work equally as effectively as those that are chemical-based. Customers anecdotally have reported that, after using ecostore USA laundry products to wash clothes and linens, children’s eczema and dermatitis have disappeared, while allergies and asthma symptoms have decreased.
ecostore USA guarantees its products:
• are plant- and/or mineral-based and free of nasty chemicals (No Nasty ChemicalsTM)
• use safer ingredients from renewable resources
• are formulated with your health in mind
• are safely super-concentrated
• meet the highest environmental standards
• have not been tested on animals
• are GE free (free of genetically-engineered products)
• are packaged in recyclable packaging
About ecostore USA

Lately, I have tried to pick more safe and child-friendly products, including making my own cleaning mixtures (vinegar and baking soda are my friends!). When I was given the opportunity to pick a few products from the EcoStore, I decided on the Citrus Spray Cleaner, the Cream Cleaner, and the Lemon Rinse Aid. I have come to rely on these great products, and have been 100% satisfied with their performance and quality.

Are you ready to try them? EcoStore USA has generously offered to let one of my readers pick out $25 worth of products from their store. The question is--what products would you chose?

To enter this giveaway, visit EcoStore USA and tell me how you would spend the $25. This step is required.

Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Giveaway!!

Most of you who follow my main blog, Life is Sweet, know that I LOVE good food, and I love to cook. I try to share my recipes regularly on my Family Food blog. I was so thrilled when I received two bottles of Country Bob's All-Purpose Sauce in the mail, along with a recipe booklet. I canned my planned dinner for that night and made one of Country Bob's recipes. Oh MY goodness! This stuff is GOOD!! And, guess what?? Country Bob's is giving away a bottle of this very sauce to TWO of my readers! Seriously, you need to try this!

Here's a little history about Country Bob's Sauces:

How does anything really good get its start? Where do great products come from? Usually they are the result of much time being exerted and a tremendous amount of love being invested. At that point you can say, "That's mine! I made that." That's the way Country Bob Edson created his All Purpose Sauce.

In 1968 Country Bob perfected the sauce of his dreams. After years of giving the sauce to friends and family he began to sell it in 1977. The reaction was overwhelming just as it is today. Almost everyone who tries Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce becomes a lifelong user. And why not, it is the perfect complement to practically any meal set on your table.

It was actually October of 1982 when Country Bob, Inc. became the company, which remains today. Bob Edson, Terry Edson, Al Malekovic and Reed Malekovic formed a corporation with equal ownership. Since that time Country Bob's distribution has magnified regionally in all directions from our corporate office located in Centralia, Illinois. Even with the tremendous growth we have not forgotten where we came from, continuing in our relentless pursuit of product excellence.

Along with our
All Purpose Sauce we have expanded our product line to include BBQ Sauce, Seasoning Salt and Spicy All Purpose Sauce. With our fully automated bottling line we also have the capability of producing Private Label products for stores or restaurants.

It would be nice if we could claim responsibility for the success of the company, however, credit must be given where credit is due. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." We have placed true ownership of Country Bob, Inc. in the hands of God. "Christ is our CEO" and He is an Awesome Boss!

*******************************************************************************************
Aren't they great?? Here's what I've tried with my first bottle of sauce:

First, I cooked Corn Pone Pie. YUM Yum YUM!
Ground beef, kidney beans, corn and a corn bread topping. The kids went crazy over it....and even my pickiest eater ate it (that would be Twizzler). It had a nice spice to it, which made it totally unique from anything else I've ever made.

Next, I used it on top of burgers the other night. Ooh! I love a burger with a little kick. I'll definitely be using Country Bob's again or my next burgers.

*************************************************************************************
Are you ready to try some yourself? Two commenters will get a bottle of Country Bob's All-purpose sauce. All you have to do is click over to Country Bob's website and tell me which recipe you would like to try out.

*************************************************************************************
Would you like some extra chances to win some of this sauce? Do any of the following for extra entries, but remember to leave a separate comment for each thing you do!

* Blog about the contest
* Follow me here or on Life is Sweet (do both for 2 entries)
* Click the fish on my left sidebar! (it's cool information for you, so we both benefit!)

Mrs. Meyers Clean Home Giveaway! Week 4

*Giveaway Closed*
If you've been following all month long, you already know that each week during March I'm giving away a copy of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS from the Hachette Book Group. And each week, I am sharing a simple tip that I learned from Mrs. Meyers and how I implemented it in our house.

This week, I turned to Mrs. Meyer's advice on getting stains out of clothes. I typically set my stained clothes off to one side of the washer to deal with, um....later. Later is just never a good thing when it comes to dealing with stains. And then there are the clothes that I don't *know* are stained until I am folding the already-dried clothes. Ugh. With a family of 7, there are just too many clothes to pick through them individually before sticking them in the washer.

My absolute favorite stain tip was this one: Use an eye dropper to put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on bloodstained garments before washing them. If you are out (say, at a soccer game....) when the clothes become blood-stained, spit on the spot!! Yes, that's right! Spit on the blood. Saliva has an enzyme that breaks down the proteins in blood.

Luckily, I didn't have to try out the blood-stained clothes tip this week. That's not to say that we didn't get any skinned knees this week, though. We get plenty of chocolate, milk, and grass on clothes on a regular basis.

Have you been trying all month to win a copy? Are you a newbie here? You still have plenty of chances! Not only will I give another book away this week, but next week I'll have two books to give away. I'll take ALL of the entries form the month for a chance at the last book (so if you have been commenting all along, you'll have even more entries.

******************************************************************************************
Here's the deal, same as always. Leave one comment for an entry. This time around, share your favorite tip for getting stains out of clothes.

******************************************************************************************
For extra entries, you can stumble, fave on technorati, kirtsy, tweet, blog, grab a button, follow me, add me to your blog roll....all the typical extra entries. I'm easy to please! Just be sure you add a comment for each entry.

This giveaway will end next Monday night, March 30rd, at 10:00pm. I will then announce the winner of this week's book and pick ONE MORE winner out of ALL of the entries received this month. So, if you have been entering all month, your chances are even better! Open to residents of the US and Canada only. No PO boxes, please.

Remember to leave me some way to get ahold of you if you are the winner! If the winner does not respond back to me within 48 hours of being contacted, I will have to pick a new winner.

Good luck!

PS--Congrats to last week's winner, CandG-Jill W! She gets her own copy of Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home!

My Biggest Giveaway Ever!

**Giveaway Closed**
In August '08 my husband and I started a company. Running a business is not a new thing for us. Even before we got married, we had a small cleaning company together (hey--we were paying our way through college!). But what we started last August was so much bigger and better than anything we have done before, and I really feel like everything else we've ever done has led us up to this point. It's beyond exciting to be doing something that we believe in so much, but also more work and scarier than either of us could have imagined. The good news? We're almost ready to unleash our product on the world. The years of thought, the months of work, the sleepless nights, the hours of worry....all come to a head as we get ready to release our debut product.

PeanutButter™ is our brand new, innovative foreign language software. We are releasing the Spanish program first (which includes multiple dialects of Spanish in one program!), with many more languages to follow!

PeanutButter™’s content and methodology focus the learner on studying complete phrases that will be useful in real conversations. It is ideal for the individual learner who is trying to make quick progress and increase his or her ability to speak the language immediately.
This focus allows the learner to retain useful constructions in the form of complete phrases. Learning the grammar for constructions as they are encountered allows the learner to quickly begin to dismantle phrases and rearrange them with other phrases or parts of phrases correctly to form new thoughts.

PeanutButter™ can be used by language students, individuals, and corporations. There is something in it for everyone, whether you are a complete beginner or a long-time student of the language who needs to brush up on their skills. We also offer customized solutions and allow YOU to tell US exactly what you want in the program and what you need to learn.

I could go on and on about PeanutButter™, but I'd rather just get to the exciting stuff! In celebration of our upcoming release (as well as 5 Minutes For Mom's Ultimate Blog Party '09), we are giving away a copy of PeanutButter™'s Spanish Language Learning Software! (We are also giving away a copy through 5M4M--we're USC (US/Canada) prize #27!)

******************************************************************************************

Please go check out the website and enter here to win your own copy! You can be one of the first people in the country to own PeanutButter™! Contest ends on March Saturday, March 28 at 10 PM Eastern time. I will chose a number using Random.org's fabulous widgets, and announce a winner by Monday, March 30.

Corneille CD Review & Giveaway

When I was asked to review a brand new CD, The Birth of Cornelius from an artist named Corneille, I had no idea what to expect. I love all kinds of music, but I rarely chose to listen to R&B and Motown. So it surprised me that I actually liked the music. I found myself choosing to listen to the CD again and again. And I found my kids moving along to the music. Corneille has an easy to listen to, soothing style. Click over to Amazon to listen to tracks from The Birth of Cornelius.

Corneille might be a new name in the music industry here in the US, but he has already had a remarkable career in Europe, with his albums reaching diamond-selling status in France. He has also led a very interesting life, and his thoughtful music and lyrics reflect that.

Corneille Nyungura was born in Fribourg, Germany, where his parents were students. At the age of six, his family returned to Rwanda, their country of origin. As a boy, Corneille began to develop an interest in music, and he credits his father for nurturing his interest. “I was singing something in my room,” he says, “and my dad heard me, and said, ‘That sounds good, it kind of sounds like Tracy Chapman.’ And I remember thinking, ‘Oh, It’s OK for me to make music.’ At age 16, he made his first recording, and was selected as a finalist in a music contest sponsored by the state-run television station.

But in 1994, Rwanda’s President Habyarimana was assassinated, and the largest, most horrific genocide in modern history claimed over 800,000 victims. Corneille’s parents and other family members were killed in the massacre. He alone managed to escape—first to Kinshasa, and then to Germany, where he was taken in by some family friends.

You can learn more about Corneille on his website, www.corneillemusic.com

Corneille says, “Music has been the place where I could go to hide and forget about the world. I couldn’t make sense of a majority of the things that happened to me, so I used music as a shield. But over time, music has become a vehicle to channel out everything that I’ve been keeping from myself for all these years. And the new album is definitely the most honest, real assessment of everything that’s happened in my life, because I’m not trying to hide as much.”

*****************************************************************************************
Would you like to own a copy of The Birth of Cornelius? I've got an AUTOGRAPHED copy to give away to one of my readers! All you have to do is leave a comment here telling me what music genre is your favorite. Easy peasy!

Another Cherish Bound Giveaway!

Do you remember seeing my review on Cherish Bound Photo Books last month? Click HERE to read my review and learn all about this amazing company, which my good blogging friend, Tara, works for. In my original review post, I asked readers to share a story that they would like to preserve. Tara and I were so impressed by the great response on the original giveaway and the stories and the memories everyone shared that we have another great offer for you!

Here's the deal: The first 25 people to register at www.findcaptureandshare.com, who mention Life is Sweet in the referrer section will get a publishing account open for free. After you've set up your account, you can test drive the system, give Tara feedback (she'd love feedback!), and publish if you wish (their prices are very reasonable for a finished photo book). Tara will then pick ONE person from that 25 to get $29 in publishing to use towards any project. So you really have nothing to lose by setting up an account, exploring the Cherish Bound system, and trying it out. You might come away with a free book telling your family's stories! (I'll keep this open until 4/14 or until we get 25 people registered!)

In addition, Tara is hosting a huge giveaway on her blog, Family Traditions (ends 3/31). She's giving away a business! Be sure to check it out, too!

Remember, your "entry" is your new free account at Cherish Bound (mentioning Lolli at Life is Sweet). Then come back here and let me know you've tried it out!

(PS--this was originally posted on my main blog, but I wanted to file it over here on my reviews side so that it wouldn't get buried) :)

This week, I can feel the Spring coming on, and with Spring comes open windows. The windows that have been closed all Winter long are looking....um, pretty grimy. Yuck. So I decided to take Mrs. Meyer's advice for cleaning windows. Do you want to know her secret?

Just mix one quart of water, one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, two teaspoons of white vinegar, and a generous splash of rubbing alcohol. (She said that exact measurements are not neccessary.) Then apply the mixture to crumpled up newspaper (the number one tip I've received this month, by the way!)

I loved it! And my windows looked amazing after a little clean-up. It's incredible how much better the house feels!

Have you been trying all month to win a copy? Are you a newbie here? You still have plenty of chances! Not only will I give another book away this week, but next week I'll have two books to give away. Tower of Strength Giveaway!

**Giveaway Closed**

About a month ago, I met a wonderful woman named Annette Lyon. Annette is an award winning LDS author of 6 novels. From her website I learned that Annette has been writing since second grade, when she piled pillows on a chair to reach her mother's typewriter. (I can totally relate to that!) She is a cum laude graduate from BYU with a degree in English, and she has experience with newspaper, magazine, and business writing, but her first love is fiction. Tower of Strength, her sixth and most recent novel, is her fourth historical centered around old Utah temples.

In 2007 she was awarded Utah's Best of State medal for fiction. Spires of Stone, her fifth novel, was a 2007 Whitney Award finalist for Best Historical Novel. She has received three publication awards from the League of Utah Writers and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the LDStorymakers, a guild for LDS writers. You can learn more about Annette on her website or on her blog.

Last month, Annette sent me a copy of her latest novel, Tower of Strength, and I loved it! It is a perfect book to read while you sit back on the couch with a warm blanket. Tower of Strength is the story of Tabitha, who was widowed at age 19. She finds herself newly pregnant and alone, but through her strength of character is able to make a life for herself and her son. After several years, she finds that she must return to her hometown and face things that she had left behind many years before. It is also the story of Samuel, a recently widowed man, whose path crosses with Tabitha's.

Click the video to see a preview of the book:

Annette has been generous enough to offer a copy of her brand new book, Tower of Strength, to one of my readers. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post.

Mrs. Meyers Clean Home Giveaway! Week 2

**Contest Closed**

I recently got a book called Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS from the Hachette Book Group. It has tips on how to clean just about anything in your house. A fabulous resource! I decided to take her tips and work on a few problem spots in my house this month for each of my Tackles in March. But the best part? I get to GIVE AWAY a copy of the book each week for the whole month!

Each week I'll be sharing a tip I learned form Mrs. Meyers. This week I decided to clean out my drains. With 4 girls in the house, and lots of food going down the disposal, our drains get clogged from the basement to kitchen to bathroom. I am not a huge fan of the harsh drain uncloggers, simply because I'm worried about the kids getting into them. Once, after using one of the harsh drain cleaners in my tub, I was horrified to find one of the kids taking a bath...before I'd had a chance to clean the tub.

Mrs. Meyer's formula is simple and can be used from the bathtub to the kitchen sink! She recommends pouring a half cup of baking soda down the drain followed by half a cup of white vinegar (see, vinegar is a great cleaner!). After a few minutes, pour a kettle-full of boiling water down the drain. Wala!

Intrigued? Do you need this great resource? Enter to win a copy for yourself! The best news.....I have 5 copies to give away! Don't win this week? Enter again next Tuesday!

Here's what you need to do:

1) Leave me a comment here. I'd love to hear YOUR favorite cleaning tips!

For extra entries:

2-Tweet about this contest (I'm @1momof5 on twitter) and leave me the link to your tweet

3-Blog about this contest and link back to me (http://1momof5-reviews.blogspot.com/) and get 2 extra entries!

4-Follow me! (or my main blog) Do both, and get 2 entries!

5-Grab my button and post on your blog (Life is Sweet button counts, too!)

6-Fav me on Technorati (again, both my main blog and reviews blog count), stumble your favorite post from Life is Sweet, or kirtsy one of my posts.

This contest will run until Monday, March 16, 2009 at 10:00 PM Eastern Time. I will announce the winner that night, and then post a NEW contest for the 2nd book giveaway the following day (Tuesday the 17th). This giveaway is open to residents of the US and Canada. No PO boxes, please.

Remember to leave me some way to get ahold of you if you are the winner! If the winner does not respond back to me within 48 hours of being contacted, I will have to pick a new winner.

Good luck!

PS--the winner of week 1's book is Lori at Time of Your Life. Congratulations, Lori!

The Most Fun My Kids Have Had in the Kitchen in a Long Time!

How many of you mothers have a difficult time finding a good balance between keeping your children entertained and happy, and providing wholesome, educational toys and activities? When my kids come home from school, they tell me about the toys that their friends are talking about, or the things that they have seen their friends bring to show and tell. Honestly, I am not always excited to run out and buy these toys that they describe to me. So much of what I find in the stores and in ads is either more violent than I would care for, or just plain fluff. Have you ever felt this way?I recently had the opportunity to review a product from Action Toys, Inc. Action Toys is a company dedicated to providing children with fun and educational toys. They have many award winning products, which can be found at stores near your home. You wouldn't believe the squeels at my house the day our package from Action Toys arrived. They sent the Pottery Wheel from their Curiosity Kids line. We opened the box and found a very good sized pottery wheel with tons of accessories, including 2 pounds of clay, six colors of paint, cutting and sculpting tools, and thorough instructions. First impression: impressed! I knew we were in for hours of fun! Necco was the first to try the pottery wheel out. She was able to follow the instructions and set up the pottery wheel on her own, and got started right away. I was happy with the power of the motor, along with the fact that the wheel had multiple speed and direction settings, and an easy-to-use foot pedal.

Later, Reese sat down with Necco as her guide and made a bowl of her own. Again, I was happy with how easy it was for her to use it. Both girls were thrilled.

I spent some time browsing through Action Toys' website, and was impressed by their I Dig Collection. Next month's Cub Scout theme is all about dinosaurs, and I can just imagine Twizzler, my 8 year old son, and all of his cub friends going on their own dinosaur excavation adventure! That's pure boy heaven!

Action Toys has offered my readers 20% off their online purchase, plus FREE SHIPPING with discount code BLG001 (just enter this code at checkout). Pass the word! Go check out Action Toys and tell me what products look the most intriguing to you!

Lots To Learn Preschool DVD Review & Giveaway!

*CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED*
Don't forget the discount code for 30% off (found on my left sidebar), good until 4/1/09

Many of you have heard me talk about the fact that we don't have cable...which means we don't watch TV. But that does NOT mean that we don't watch videos. I am always on the look-out for fun, wholesome, and educational DVDs for my kids to watch. I particularly love to find preschool programs that have some substance for AJ, my 3 year old who is home with me all day while the other kids are at school. I recently found out about Lots To Learn, an award winning children's video series that does a fantastic job at entertaining AND teaching preschoolers.

After we had watched the very first video in the 5-DVD series, I found AJ singing the theme song around the house. He loves the music! The shows are engaging, using a nice combination of real kids, puppets (Buster the dog and Gato the cat) and other animations. The dancing skeleton in the Head to Toe with Buster is my favorite! I also love the fact that they repeat the alphabet so many times throughout the DVDs.

It's hard to pick one favorite, because whenever we put one of the DVDs on to play, AJ is enthralled. He probably asks for the Buster's Favorite Animals DVD most often. I really like Head to Toe and Buster Loves Music. If you are looking for a program to entertain and teach your preschooler or toddler, check out Lots to Learn!

And, guess what? You can win your choice of Lots to Learn DVDs. If you don't want to wait, or you'd like to buy the entire series instead of just one show, Lots to Learn has also offered my readers a special discount:

You can get 30% off all prices (even sales prices), utilizing the code preschool. This offer will expire on April 1, so hurry!

Lori--I'll be in contact with you tonight!

Each week, I'll be sharing a little tip I've learned from Mrs. Meyer's book. This week, I turned to the bathroom.....Growing up, I never paid much attention to the toilet bowl build up. Now, as a mother, I am painfully aware of the way the toilet bowl looks. And in a house of 5 kids, our toilets are used a lot...and often left unflushed for hours at a time. Just don't get me started on the woes of having a three-year-old son....

Mrs Meyers gives a few great tips for keeping the toilets clean. I tried her tip for getting the ring out: Pour a half cup of distilled vinegar into the bowl and let it sit for a few hours (or even overnight) and then swipe with a toilet brush. I gave my toilets the treatment before going to bed, since I can never guarantee that they won't get used during the day. While my bathroom smelled a little interesting the next morning, it did the trick, and my toilet was clean! I love the fact that I was able to use a safe, natural, and low-cost cleaner. No, I didn't take a before and after picture. That's a little too much.

I was very intrigued by Mrs. Meyer's extra tips and might try them sometime (I just didn't have the supplies at home). She recommends dropping a few denture tablets into the bowl and letting them foam for about 5 minutes. Hmmm....You think I might get some funny looks buying denture tablets with AJ in the cart? She also has a cool tip using a can of cola. Now, that would be fun!

Intrigued? Do you need this great resource? Enter to win a copy for yourself! The best news.....I have 5 copies to give away! Don't win this week? Enter again next Tuesday!

Here's what you need to do:
