Mrs. Meyers Clean Home Giveaway! Week 2

**Contest Closed**

I recently got a book called Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS from the Hachette Book Group. It has tips on how to clean just about anything in your house. A fabulous resource! I decided to take her tips and work on a few problem spots in my house this month for each of my Tackles in March. But the best part? I get to GIVE AWAY a copy of the book each week for the whole month!

Each week I'll be sharing a tip I learned form Mrs. Meyers. This week I decided to clean out my drains. With 4 girls in the house, and lots of food going down the disposal, our drains get clogged from the basement to kitchen to bathroom. I am not a huge fan of the harsh drain uncloggers, simply because I'm worried about the kids getting into them. Once, after using one of the harsh drain cleaners in my tub, I was horrified to find one of the kids taking a bath...before I'd had a chance to clean the tub.

Mrs. Meyer's formula is simple and can be used from the bathtub to the kitchen sink! She recommends pouring a half cup of baking soda down the drain followed by half a cup of white vinegar (see, vinegar is a great cleaner!). After a few minutes, pour a kettle-full of boiling water down the drain. Wala!

Intrigued? Do you need this great resource? Enter to win a copy for yourself! The best news.....I have 5 copies to give away! Don't win this week? Enter again next Tuesday!

Here's what you need to do:

1) Leave me a comment here. I'd love to hear YOUR favorite cleaning tips!

For extra entries:

Remember to leave me some way to get ahold of you if you are the winner! If the winner does not respond back to me within 48 hours of being contacted, I will have to pick a new winner.

Good luck!

PS--the winner of week 1's book is Lori at Time of Your Life. Congratulations, Lori!

  1. Hi! I've been lurking for a few days now, and am enjoying your blog. As for my cleaning tips, well...lemme see...

    1. I'm starting to follow FLYLady and see how that goes.
    2. I eat out a lot, which helps keep the kitchen clean. :-)
    3. I clean my garbage disposal by running a few cubes of ice through it, followed by a bunch of citrus fruit skins (usually grapefruit or orange).

Beyond that, well, I'm not a slob but nobody would admire my housekeeping skills.

  2. To sharpen the blades and freshening the scent from the garbage disposal. Crush whole ice cubes and a half a lemon in the disposal.

  16. Confession: haven't looked at this giveaway till today. I don't really like the deep cleaning stuff, so I thought I'd let someone who'd enjoy the book win. But I just read your drain-cleaning tip and now I want the book! We have *no* disposal, so I'll be doing this today, too!!

I honestly don't have any cleaning tips. Yesterday I made a LIST and wouldn't allow myself access to the computer till it was complete. So I actually got a lot done yesterday. And shockingly, the blogging world survived without me! ;)

  17. I am trying to switch over to natural cleaning products from the chemical stuff-yuck-so I would love to win this book to help! I haven't tried it yet but I got an email from Martha about a natural tub scrub: Add one teaspoon of liquid soap and several drops of an antibacterial essential oil (such as tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, or peppermint) to one cup of baking soda. Add just enough water to form a paste, and use it with a sponge or brush to scour bathtub surfaces.

  18. I just saw this book on tv as a MUST HAVE! I clean my granite counters with a mixture of dawn dishsoap, water and rubbing alcohol.. streak free baby.

  19. One tip I learned from my grandmother is when preparing a meal, fill the sink with hot soapy water. That way you can pop the used pots and pans, etc into the water and let them soak while you finish cooking and/or eat. Then cleanup will be quicker and easier.

Lint brushes for quick dusting everywhere (furniture, couches, chairs, bedding, etc.). It is really great on pet hair, plus it doesn't just push it to the floor if there is no time to vacuum.

  44. I'm trying to more natural with my cleaning since my 3 y/o has chronic lung disease and asthma and harsh cleaners and fumes irritate her lungs (mine too!) I also love that it's just better for the world and often more economical.

I love the natural anti-bacterial/anti-fungal qualities of tea tree oil. I use it diluted with water in a spray bottle to clean toilets and sinks. Spray on & let sit for 30 min, then scrub.

Lemon oil wiped on tile and glass will keep soap scum from building up and smells great!

Would love to have this book and have added it to my wishlist in case I don't win. :-) Thanks for the chance to enter!

  58. I just found you on Mormon Mommy Blogs. So my tip is for hard to remove grime on bakeware. Like greasy stuff that is burnt on, ot just really thick. I fill the bottom of the dish/pan then put a dryer sheet in it over night. In the morning I wipe off the gunk with the dryer sheet, then do a rinse wash in the sink. Works every time. Thanks for the giveaway (can I just put the same tip each time I enter...I obviously need this since this is my one amazing tip).

  60. Cleaning tip? Always keep an old discarded toothbrush under the sink. You'd be surprised how many spots it can reach in cleaning that the usual tools can't.
