I recently got a book called Mrs. Meyer's Clean Home: No-Nonsense Advice that Will Inspire You to CLEAN like the DICKENS from the Hachette Book Group. It has tips on how to clean just about anything in your house. A fabulous resource! I decided to take her tips and work on a few problem spots in my house this month for each of my Tackles in March. But the best part? I get to GIVE AWAY a copy of the book each week for the whole month!
Each week, I'll be sharing a little tip I've learned from Mrs. Meyer's book. This week, I turned to the bathroom.....Growing up, I never paid much attention to the toilet bowl build up. Now, as a mother, I am painfully aware of the way the toilet bowl looks. And in a house of 5 kids, our toilets are used a lot...and often left unflushed for hours at a time. Just don't get me started on the woes of having a three-year-old son....
Mrs Meyers gives a few great tips for keeping the toilets clean. I tried her tip for getting the ring out: Pour a half cup of distilled vinegar into the bowl and let it sit for a few hours (or even overnight) and then swipe with a toilet brush. I gave my toilets the treatment before going to bed, since I can never guarantee that they won't get used during the day. While my bathroom smelled a little interesting the next morning, it did the trick, and my toilet was clean! I love the fact that I was able to use a safe, natural, and low-cost cleaner. No, I didn't take a before and after picture. That's a little too much.
I was very intrigued by Mrs. Meyer's extra tips and might try them sometime (I just didn't have the supplies at home). She recommends dropping a few denture tablets into the bowl and letting them foam for about 5 minutes. Hmmm....You think I might get some funny looks buying denture tablets with AJ in the cart? She also has a cool tip using a can of cola. Now, that would be fun!
Intrigued? Do you need this great resource? Enter to win a copy for yourself! The best news.....I have 5 copies to give away! Don't win this week? Enter again next Tuesday!

I'm ALWAYS looking for new ways to clean things, especially since I'm lazy and often let them get way out of hand before I realize how gross they are! lol I also have a 3 year old son. Gotta love it. :) I'd love to win!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted for you too! AND I'm following you...yay!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! My favorite tip would have to be using newspaper to clean glass windows. No streaks!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted about the contest! I think I did it right :)!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great book. Guess if I had a great cleaning tip, I wouldn't need the book, huh? Love using newspaper to clean glass. Also, I heat water up in the microwave prior to cleaning it. Makes it easy clean up.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite tip on cleaning... hmmm... get your hubby and kids to help to keep up the house! It not only helps make your house shine but teaches them how to help and keep up a home :)
ReplyDeleteI would l♥ve to win this book! I also posted about this on the top right corner of my blog!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book! Since I had kids, I can't keep my house clean enough.. it's a never-ending job but I'd love some new tips on doing it!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds spectacular! I'll give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI have your button!
ReplyDeleteoh Lolli you know how badly I need this book. My cleaning secrets are:
ReplyDelete1)beg your friends to come help you
2)have your husband move out
3)take 1/2 of your belongings to salvation army
4)give everything that is cool to LOLLI
5)cry
6)beg your friends again
seriously
1) leave 1 cup of ammonia in cold oven overnight to soften baked on stuff. wipe next day.
2) put por ce lin (phonetic) grills from stove top in zip lock bag with 1/4 cup ammonia and seal. leave for 2-3 hours. should come clean.
Lolli I don't understand some of the things you said to do for other entries. I will go blog on my blog that has all of 7 readers and come back and report :).
please, please!-I'll make a deal, I will give the book back before I move so I don't have to pay shipping to move it and you can give it away again?
okay my friend, its on my blog, which i haven't touched since January. its not pretty, but its there. please please....
ReplyDeleteI would love this book. I'm always looking for new ways to keep my home clean. I'm sort of a clean freak. :-) I always save old toothbrushes that I have ran through the dishwasher to clean hard to reach places or things with little holes, etc. They are so helpful!
ReplyDeletepma_devri@hotmail.com
I'm the worlds worst cleaner... so I can't think of any tips. Unless it's try to keep the kids outside, and hose them down before you let them back in... That probably doesn't count. :)
ReplyDeleteI use a small rechargeable vacuum to clean the kitchen floor (that needs cleaning almost after each meal with little kids at home), stairs, and hard-to-reach places - much easier than using my main heavy-duty vacuum cleaner!
ReplyDeleteFollow your main blog
ReplyDeleteI need the book. Sadly I don't have any cleaning tips...But I am battling the toilet ring and I will use your tip tonight.
ReplyDeleteAnd I follow
ReplyDelete...and I already had the button:)
ReplyDeleteI so don't have any cleaning tips, sorry. I guess I really need the book. m
ReplyDeleteHooray for free books... and hooray for cleaning advice! How about a favorite product rather than a favorite tip? The swiffer wetjet sweeper has forever simplified my floor cleaning. Then again, I have a small apartment and one wipe cleans it all--maybe not so practical for a larger space.
ReplyDeleteHi...this looks like a great book. I have put you on my blog...
ReplyDeletehttp://nationsaroundourtable.blogspot.com/2009/03/free-book.html, I also added your button to the post. I love books...thanks for the fun.
Ok so I posted on your life is sweet blog, but I dunno if it counts for the contest entry so here I am. I also follow you. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cleaning tip? Have someone else do it!
ReplyDeleteOh. Juyst became a follower last night. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteHey, entering so you won't have to pay shipping when I win. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I so get the toilet issue, I have 6 kids, 5 of which use it! So I could use the help! Some times I, before bed, pour a splash of bleach in scrub a bit and leave. It seems to keep smells in check.
ReplyDeleteI already follow you.
ReplyDeleteI also am following you on Twitter!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am now grabbing your button!
ReplyDeleteA cleaning tip I just learned that works well is to use a lemon cut in half and clean your glass shower door. It does a wonderful job and smells great.
ReplyDeleteI already follow you so I added your button to my blog too.
ReplyDeletefollowing you.
ReplyDeleteI can always use cleaning tips. Especially if they don't involve using expensive chemicals.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, one quirky hint I have is to save the flat plastic bread bag things that are used instead of twist-ties. Use them to help scrape up stuck on stuff - from counters, dishes, floors - wherever.
cool giveaway- I could always use help with this. I have no cleaning tips- that's why I need this book!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I also follow you!
ReplyDeleteCleaning tip I recently learned.... Rain-X on your glass shower door helps repel water, and keeps it cleaner longer. (though I have yet to try it out....) :) Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
